During such times, we can feel powerless, empty, and hopeless. As Christians, we believe that God is always with us and will see us through every storm. Though we may not realize it, God is especially close to us in times of difficulty. He is always ready for us to lean on Him; reaching out to stop our fall. Through prayer and reading the Scriptures, we can draw near to the Lord and tell him all our troubles. He will listen to us, comfort us, and tenderly carry us through each day. In Him we will find peace, and He will restore our strength and joy. I have composed the following prayers for depression, each with a different theme, and based them on Scripture passages. Where I’ve quoted Scripture, I’ve included the location of the passage in brackets so that you can find it to read later. It is my hope that they will bring you comfort at this difficult time. Prayers for Depression
Jesus, You are the “Divine Physician” and the “Prince of Peace.” During Your ministry on Earth, You healed many people by making the blind see, the deaf hear, and the mute speak. You said, “Come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28). My heart is troubled about so many things, and my mind is clouded by fear, anxiety, and pain. I am frightened about the future. Please be with me at every moment throughout the day and night. Let me feel Your presence and show that I am not alone. I ask you to heal my body and mind, and give me the sense of complete calm and peace that only You can provide. Restore me to good mental health and make me whole again. Guide my actions so that they may always please You. I thank You for what You have done, and what You are about to do.

Dear Heavenly Father, You have created us all in your image and care for us with a father’s love. Your love for us is infinite and surpasses our understanding. It is written, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18). Lord, right now I’m feeling very down. I’m having a hard time feeling worthy of love and believe that I have a future. Help me to trust in Your plans for me, and know that all good things come from You. Free me from the depression I’m experiencing and help me love myself, so that I can share that love with others. I ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Lord, in Your goodness, help me to grow in faith and hope each day and trust in the future You have prepared for me. Lift me out of my depression, and hold me close to your healing grace. As we walk together during each moment of my recovery, teach me to place my worries and doubts in your hands. Replace the dark cloud of depression with true joy found in You alone. Thank You for my life, for the unseen blessings You’ve given me, and for being with me always.

Prayer for Loneliness
Heavenly Father, the feeling of loneliness has always been my most difficult struggle in life. Ever since I was young, I have always felt feelings of isolation. Even though I have family and friends who are very loving, I can’t help but feel lonely. There is a strong feeling of emptiness and a void inside me which I believe you’re the only one who could fill. I come to You once again asking for Your help. I don’t want to continue to feel this way. I wish I knew what causes this negative emotion in my life. I know that You are the only one who understands what I’m going through. There are days when this becomes almost unbearable. There is nothing more disheartening than sitting at a table of crowded people and feeling lonesome. I should never feel this way because You are by my side, but I can’t help it. Please make Your presence known so I may feel better.

Prayer for Sadness
Loving God, I am currently feeling very sad at the moment. I feel so much pain in my heart because of recent events and circumstances. I don’t know who else to turn to in this difficult times. I would normally open up about my feelings to my friends and family, but I don’t want to burden them. They have enough to worry about. I have always preferred coping with my sadness by myself or with You, God. I believe that You’re the only one who can heal this sadness. Please take away the sorrow that I am feeling. Guide me so that I could remain faithful to Your words and teachings through this rocky time. Help me not to act foolishly with my actions due to the emotion that I am feeling. Help keep me positive. I know that there is hope with You by my side. Soon I will be able to smile and feel happy once again. I hope that the joy I once had will be restored.

I pray that you would heal my mind and my heart, lifting the darkness of depression and replacing it with your light. Surround me with your love and peace, and help me to trust in your plan for my life.
I pray for the strength to be able to help myself and the wisdom to know when to reach out for help, I pray for the ability to have healthy and loving relationships in my life and the guidance to be able to establish and maintain those relationships.
