Prayer for Married Couples

Heavenly Father, you have joined my wife/husband and I together in holy matrimony.  You have served as our mentor, friend, companion and confidant.  In our journey together as a married couple, we continuously face many situations which challenge our relationship. Obstacles, misunderstandings, petty fights, and much more serious arguments have all been part of our marriage.  We seek your guidance dear Lord so we do not forget our sworn vows to each other.  I understand that every obstacle we face is part of something bigger.  I believe that you have a plan for our marriage.  Marriage is a sacred sacrament where two people promise to love each other through good and bad times.  Help me dear Lord not to forget that my wife/husband will make mistakes.  I sometimes fail to recognize that I’m the cause of our arguments.  I have to realize that our marriage will not be perfect.  I want to keep my partner happy and content.  I want to be able to fulfill my duties as a wife/husband.  Lord, I know you are listening to my prayer.  I know that you understand the deepest worries of my heart.  Everyday I do my best to keep in mind that everything I’m doing is for your greater glory.  My partner and I love each other very much, but temptation is everywhere. I humbly ask for your mercy and compassion dear Lord that we may never give in to worldly temptations.  Give us the strength and courage we need to get through our problems.  Bless our marriage so we may continue to serve you as devout Christians.  Make us your instruments to proclaim the faith and worship you.  Let us be an inspiration to others, so that they may understand the beauty of marriage.  As we grow together in love, guide us to the right path so that we may never lose sight of what’s important.  I would like to thank you dear Lord for letting me find a partner who I will spend the rest of my life with.  I feel so blessed that I have someone to be with me through thick and thin.  Thank you dear Lord for listening to my prayer and understanding my situation.  You are the only true God, and I trust in you.

Amen.

Short Marriage Prayer

God, I want to thank you for having this wonderful person cross my path that I will be sharing the rest of my life with.  Through him you have shown me how much you love me.  I will continue to do Jesus’s work as I have done before.  I know we will have both good and bad times, but no matter how difficult things get, I know that we can always confide in you.

Amen.

Prayer for Getting Married

Dearest Lord, I will soon be married to my wife/husband.  It’s going to be a day of celebration and rejoicing.  We are two people who crossed paths and fell in love.  This would not be possible without your never-ending support and guidance.  In the early stages of our relationship, we weren’t sure if we were meant for each other.  We used to be young and confused.  Now that we’ve been a couple for a few years now, we’re finally ready to become one.  I understand how sacred this sacrament is which is why I want to be fully prepared physically, mentally, and emotionally.  My wife/husband is a good person, and I’m very blessed to spend the rest of my life with him/her.  Getting to know my future wife/husband was an amazing journey.  I have seen both their positive and negative traits.  I know that married life will be so much different from where we are now.  I look forward to being a wife/husband, because I know that it will open up opportunities for me to improve myself.  Whatever challenges we may face in our marriage, I know you will continue to be there and serve as our guide.  Marriage is a big step in our relationship but as we have carefully planned it, we can confidently say that we’re ready to commit.  In the near future, my partner and I will soon have children of our own.  It’s our responsibility to make sure that we are the best role model for our kids.  Help me dear Lord to fulfill my duties as a wife/husband.  Be my constant reminder that I am a child of God.  My actions, words, and decisions should all be done for your greater glory.  As a devout Christian, I will make sure to follow your teachings regarding marriage.  I am forever grateful that you have given me this wonderful privilege to marry the love of my life.  Thank you for this great blessing.

Amen.
