Crystals in the Bible

There are many mentions of crystals in the bible.  It mentions crystals, gemstones, and semi-precious stones.  These are usually mentioned to describe an event or a person’s armor/clothing.  An example of this would be “And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, four rows of stones: a row of sardius, topaz, and carbuncle shall be the first row; and the second row an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond; and the third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;” (Exodus 28: 17-19; ASV).  This describes the armor’s elegance and symbolizes a range of thoughts, ideas, or people depending on the source.  The crystals also vary depending on the translation.

Crystal analogies and comparisons have a strong theme in the Bible.  “having the glory of God: her light was like unto a stone most precious, as it were a jasper stone, clear as crystal:” (Revelation 21:11; ASV)  This is a way of providing something relatable into the awe of New Jerusalem.  Another analogy references God’s purity and perfection in “and before the throne, as it were a sea of glass like unto crystal; and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, four living creatures full of eyes before and behind.” (Revelation 4:6; ASV).  These are to provide us Christians with some context as to the awe of God’s judgment.

The Bible also mentions crystals in the context of the comparison of value.  Gemstones, crystals, gold, and silver have always been prized by people for thousands of years.  The Bible uses these values to show how much more something else should be prized.  Someone might say “Your health is more valuable than all the money in the world.”  This person is making the claim that money is great, but it doesn’t do you much good if you’re not of this world anymore.  The Bible does this as well.  “No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal: Yea, the price of wisdom is above rubies.”  (Job 28:17; ASV).  Wisdom is much more valuable than gemstones.  Making poor decisions or being unwise to a situation may wind up costing someone more “rubies” in the future.

Crystals Used for Healing

Crystals used for healing are not mentioned in the Bible and are viewed as witchcraft and heresy by every denomination of Christianity.  This would also violate the commandment “You shall not have any other gods beside me.”  God does not empower crystals and therefore this “power” would come from “elsewhere.”  If you were putting your faith in crystals, you would be putting your faith outside of God.  Only God can provide healing and salvation.

To paraphrase the Pope, be guided by God and not horoscopes or crystal balls.  “even he, whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,” (2 Thessalonians 2:9; ASV).  Whether you are Catholic or not, one would assume that most Christians would agree with this statement.  Put your faith in God, not trinkets.  Despite what people claim, crystals can not and will not provide magical powers.  Healing crystals are pushed by those driven by greed.

I implore you not to use these kinds of items.  It is made very clear in Revelations that using sorcery would result in fire and brimstone.  “But for the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part shall be in the lake that burneth with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8; ASV).  Remember, find Jesus and find Heaven.  There is no need for healing crystals when there is healing in Jesus.
